Tell me What you Mean

I'm Free

Above is the 1981 debut release of the Freeway Single 'Tell me What You Mean' on Banner Records and Fresburg Publishing. Banner Records/Fresburg Publishing was a new startup recording company by Richard Copeland, owner of Bonanza Music in Clovis California. The single was recorded at Studio 9 in Hollywood and engineered by Bill Smith with associate producer Ottavio C Sasso (we new him as Chuck). Band members were: Dan Greer (Vocals and Guitar), Debi Montanari (Bass), Dan Richards (Guitar), and Tom Buratovich (Vocals and Percussion). There was also an unknown keyboard player that made the circus sound on side A:. As with many new things this didn't come together like I had thought ... and I didn't like the arrangement of 'Tell Me What You Mean'. It wasn't at all what I originally conceived, but life goes on! I have placed the released recording of 'Tell Me What You Mean' here for some unknown reason. All I ask is that after hearing this version that you would please listen to the 'Practice Session' version ... it is much closer to my original concept. While the release did get some airplay locally on KKDJ (thank you Brian Jones) and KFIG it was mostly between 2am and 6am ... no real air thank God! Shortly after this recording session we went back into the studio at Circus Audio in Hollywood and recorded six additional tracks, but because of artistic differences they never went much further than the studio. The contract expired about a year later and I was free! Truly these tracks do not do the talent of these musicians justice. I was so lucky to play with three of the best I have ever met not to mention friends!
