Music by the Band Freeway

1979- 1983

Freeway was a Central Valley rock band started in 1979 by Dan Greer, Debi Montanari, Dan Richards, and Tom Buratovich. Sometimes labeled as a new wave band, the bands song list contained many original and cover re-makes. In late 1979 Freeway signed with Fresburg Publishing, a new startup publishing company started by Rich Copeland and in 1981 recorded a single and laid the groundwork for an six song EP at Circus Audio in Los Angeles. Side A of the self-titled single was ‘Tell Me What You Mean’ written by Dan Greer while Side B was ‘I’m Free’ written by Rich Copeland (the singles associate producer was Ottavio C. Sasso, the soon to be bass player of Animotion). Well, before getting the EP completed, a dispute with band members and Rich Copeland brought the relationship to an end, and after the breakup with Fresno Publishing, Dan Richards left the band and Freeway made the decision to continue as a three piece. Freeway continued playing at Fresno and Central Valley venues until late 1983 when they broke-up. Before breaking-up they took themselves back into the studio and recorded eight of their original tunes and one cover 'Alice’ by the LA band The Naughty Sweeties, but once again their sounds never got published or released.
Freeway played many of the popular venues in the Fresno and opened for other band on a regular basis. Some of the venues include the: Wild Blue Yonder, Old Town Saloon, Olympic Tavern, Star Palace, Warnors Theatre, CSUF The Bucket, and many others .....
